1. Series connection

Series connection is the process of connecting the positive and negative terminals of multiple battery packs together to form a long battery pack. Series connection can increase the voltage of the battery pack. For example, when two individual batteries (positive connected to negative) are connected in series, the voltage is twice the original battery voltage.

The advantage of series connection is that it can make the voltage of the lithium battery pack meet the equipment requirements, but the disadvantage is that it is prone to battery overdischarge, resulting in a shortened battery life.

2. Parallel connection

Parallel connection is the process of connecting the positive and negative poles of multiple battery packs together to form a wider battery pack. Parallel connection can increase the capacity of the battery pack. For example, when two individual batteries (positive connected to positive and negative connected to negative) are connected in parallel, the capacity is twice the original battery capacity.

The advantage of parallel connection is that it can increase the capacity of the battery pack, but the disadvantage is that it is prone to mismatched internal resistance of the battery, resulting in unstable battery pack and damaged lifespan.

3. Hybrid connection

Hybrid connection combines series and parallel connection methods to increase the voltage and capacity of the battery pack. For example, by connecting two groups (each with 4 individual batteries, 2 in series, and then connecting the 2 series groups in parallel) in a hybrid manner, the capacity is 4 times the original and the voltage is 2 times the original.

Hybrid connection can achieve a dual optimization effect of voltage and capacity, but the connection method is more complex and requires attention to the matching of internal resistance.



Precautions

1. Matching the number of battery packs

When connecting battery packs in series or parallel, it should be ensured that the selected number of battery packs is equal. If the number of batteries is different, the internal resistance of the batteries is different, and the capacity is different, it will lead to uneven voltage of the battery pack after connection, affecting the battery pack's lifespan.

2. Internal resistance balance

Internal resistance is an important parameter of batteries. Different batteries have different internal resistances. If the internal resistance does not match, the lifespan of battery packs connected in series or parallel will be affected during use. In general, when adding a battery pack, the same battery pack should be selected, and the internal resistance difference of the battery should not exceed 5% through equipment such as a battery tester or battery cluster management system.

3. Preparation before connecting the battery pack

Before connecting the battery pack, it is necessary to confirm that the working environment is good and all connecting devices have been connected. At the same time, it is necessary to check the positive and negative poles of the battery pack. When connecting, the battery pack can only be connected according to the positive and negative pole connection method.


4. Security

The connection operation of the battery pack needs to be cautious, and the connecting devices and wires should use standard products that meet the requirements to prevent dangerous situations such as short circuits or burning.
