Lithium battery protection board is a protective device used for lithium-ion batteries. Its main function is to cut off the battery circuit in case of overcharging, over discharging, short circuit, etc., to protect the battery from damage. Due to its high energy density, long lifespan, and low self discharge rate, lithium batteries have been widely used. The following will introduce the quality inspection of lithium battery protection boards and common faults and repair methods of lithium battery protection boards.
1.1 Measuring voltage value
One of the methods to check the quality of the lithium phosphate battery protection board is to measure the voltage value. By using a multimeter to measure the voltage value of the output port of the protection board, it can be determined whether the protection board is working properly. Normally, the output voltage of a normal lithium battery protection board should be between 2.5V-4.3V.
1.2 Measuring current values
Another method to check the quality of the lithium battery protection board is to measure the current value. By connecting an appropriate load and measuring the current value with a multimeter, it is possible to determine whether the protection board is working properly. The normal output current of the lithium battery protection board should be below 5A.
2.1 Overdischarge protection failure
Overdischarge protection failure is one of the most common faults in lithium battery protection boards. When the battery is depleted, if the BMS protection board fails to cut off the circuit in a timely manner, it will cause the battery to be over discharged, thereby damaging the battery. At this point, the problem can be solved by replacing the BMS protective board.
2.2 Overcharge protection failure
Another common fault is the failure of overcharge protection. When the charging voltage of the battery is too high, if the protection board fails to cut off the circuit in time, it will lead to overcharging of the battery, which will also damage the battery. In this case, it is necessary to replace the protective board or choose a power adapter with overcharge protection function for charging.
2.3 Short circuit protection failure
Short circuit protection failure is also another common fault. When the positive and negative poles of the battery are connected or other reasons cause a short circuit in the circuit, if the protection board fails to cut off the circuit in time, it can cause a short circuit in the battery, and even lead to safety accidents such as fires. At this point, it is necessary to replace the protective board to ensure battery safety.
2.4 Poor circuit contact
In addition to the above faults, another common problem is poor circuit contact. During use, the connection interface of the protection board may become loose or have poor contact, leading to the failure of the protection function. At this point, you can check if the connection interface is loose and reinsert it, or replace the protective board.
It should be noted that although lithium battery protection plates can protect the battery and extend its lifespan, they are not foolproof. To ensure the safe use of lithium batteries, it is also necessary to pay attention to issues such as charging and discharging methods, battery storage conditions, etc.
